Payments by Credit Card

Effective August 1, 2001 we began accepting credit cards for payment of all fees, costs, fines and expenses in the Madison office. Eau Claire will begin on August 20. However, this option is not available to debtors. On our website you will find a copy of the Notice to the Bar and the Credit Card Blanket Authorization that will explain this service in more detail (note: documents will probably not be available until Monday, 8/13/01 - see the "Credit Card Payments" link on the pages below).

  • Notice to the Bar:
  • Credit Card Blanket Authorization:

We will be more than happy to send you paper copies of these documents, please email us at: with your mailing address if you want the paper forms.

We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this new service. It is part of our continuing effort to accommodate your needs. We hope you will avail yourself of this option since, in other districts, counsel have indicated it has simplified their financial management by eliminating the problem of lost checks, as well as time consuming effect of sending a check in the incorrect amount to the clerk's office.

If you have any questions related to the use of the cards, please contact, Ms. Tina. M. Godding at 608-261-5737.

Fee Clarification

Last month we advised that the Miscellaneous Fee Schedule (28 U.S.C. Sec. 1930 (d)), has been amended to clarify that amendments to matrices or to the mailing lists of creditors will each require a $20 fee. Please note that the fee applies regardless of Chapter.

Electronic Case Filing (ECF)

The national project support team visited during the week of July 9 in Madison and Eau Claire went extremely well. During their visit, they also gave a demonstration of some of the basis features of CM/ECF for staff, panel trustees and some law firm staff. We are preparing a comprehensive training program for external and internal users and have established the following target dates for implementation and training. All dates are tentative.

  • August - November 2001
User Surveys and USBC Staff Training
  • December 2001
    Train target attorneys and staffs
Train U.S. Trustee's Office and Trustees
  • January 7, 2002
Live date for USBC and Trustees
  • January - February 2002
    Training for other external customers
  • February 4, 2002
    Live date for target attorneys
  • March 1, 2002
Live date for all other customers

Bankruptcy Filing Software

We cannot endorse a specific program, but wanted to advise you that software providers have already developed forms and programs that are compatible with ECF. Some automatically assemble the creditor matrix, create templates of client information and have developed filing shortcuts to facilitate uploading of files.
