Redaction-Are you Protecting your Client(s)?

HIGHLIGHTS

While many of you are already very diligent about redacting social security numbers, names of children and dates of birth, there are still some documents being filed with the court that contain financial account information. This information must be redacted.

Note: If financial account numbers are relevant, only the last four digits of these numbers should be used.

Be cautious when filing documents that contain the following:

If a redacted document is filed, it is the sole responsibility of counsel and the parties to be sure that all documents and pleadings comply with the rules of this court requiring redaction of personal identifiers. The Clerk's Office is not required by Judicial Conference policy to review any pleadings to confim that sensitive information has been redacted.
