HIGHLIGHTS
- Better suited for long-term storage of documents
- Developed to ensure that documents viewed today will be able to be opened and seen exactly the same way in the future, regardless of the technology used to view them
- Most word processing software is capable of generating documents in PDF/A format
- ECF has been modified to accept PDF/A documents
- Eventually, PDF/A document formatting will be required

| On December 13, 2011, the President signed into law H.R. 2192, the National Guard and Debt Relief Extension Act of 2011. This Act will extend the National Guard and Reservists Debt Relief Act of 2008 for an additional four years. The original act would have expired on December 18, 2011. |
