PDF Headers

PDF Headers are not showing

This problem generally occurs with documents that have been scanned and uploaded. ECF dynamically applies the PDF header to your document when you attempt to view it through ECF. Depending on the scanner used to create the PDF, the physical dimensions of the document, and the document’s final file size, ECF may not be able to apply the header to the document.

Documents which the filer has in an electronic format must be converted to PDF from the word processing original, not scanned, to permit text searches and to facilitate transmission and retrieval.

As a filer of documents in CM/ECF, if you must scan a paper document -- the missing header issue can be alleviated -- by following these steps before filing, but after scanning a document:

  1.  Open the scanned PDF.
  2.  Select File.
  3.  Select Print.
  4.  Select the PDF printer. (The Adobe PDF printer is installed automatically with Adobe Acrobat. Numerous free PDF printer drivers are available for download from the Internet.)
  5.  Select OK.
  6.  Specify location to save the printed, “re-printed to PDF” version of the document.
  7.  Select Save.
  8.  File the “scanned” but “re-printed to PDF” document in CM/ECF.
