Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act does not apply to the federal judiciary. However, pursuant to United States Judicial Conference policy, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Wisconsin provides sign language interpreters or other auxiliary aids and services to participants in federal judicial proceedings who are deaf, hearing impaired, or have communication disabilities. This requirement does not apply to spectators.
Building Accommodations
All Western District of Wisconsin courthouses are wheelchair accessible. All public restrooms are wheelchair accessible. All individuals seeking entrance to the courthouses must present a valid, government-issued ID and pass through security, including a metal detector. Elevators are equipped with braille signage. Elevators are equipped with emergency call features to accommodate those with visual and hearing impairments.
Parking
The Western District of Wisconsin does not provide public parking. However, street parking and parking garages near the courthouses have disability accessible spaces available to the public.
Accommodation Requests
Individuals participating in federal court proceedings who require the assistance of a qualified sign language interpreter or other similar auxiliary aids and services, must submit accommodation requests 7 days in advance of the court proceeding.
