Response to Cybersecurity Breach Involving SolarWinds

Thursday, March 11, 2021

The U.S. Bankruptcy for the Western District of Wisconsin continues to work with the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts to respond to the cybersecurity breach involving SolarWinds Orion software supply chain.  The breach relates to vulnerabilities in the Judiciary’s Case Management/Electronic Case Files system (CM/ECF) that risk compromising highly sensitive documents (HSD) stored on CM/ECF, particularly sealed filings.  Please refer to the U.S. Courts press release issued on January 6, 2021 for complete details.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Wisconsin has preliminarily concluded that no changes are required to our current CM/ECF filing procedures and protocols arising from these identified vulnerabilities.  The Court does not permit the electronic submission or the storing of any sealed documents or records online.  We will continue to monitor and evaluate ongoing developments regarding this issue for any impact on court systems and CM/ECF users.
