On February 19, 2020, the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019, P.L. 116-54 (SBRA) will go into effect – long before the normal three-year rules amendment process runs its course. As a temporary measure, the Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Rules has drafted Interim Bankruptcy Rules that can be adopted by courts as local rules or by general order when the SBRA goes into effect. The Advisory Committee has also drafted amendments to the Official forms to address the SBRA. The Standing Committee now seeks comment on the proposed SBRA rules and forms for a short four-week period prior to making final recommendations.

The Western District of Wisconsin U.S. Bankruptcy Court's Madison and Eau Claire offices will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2019, for Columbus Day. The Court will resume normal operations on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Wisconsin will be closed on Monday September 2nd, 2019 in celebration of the Labor Day holiday. The Court will resume normal operations on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019.

The Judicial Conference Advisory Committees on Appellate, Bankruptcy, Criminal and Evidence Rules have proposed amendments to Appellate Rules: 3, 6, 42, and Forms 1 and 2, Bankruptcy Rules: 2005, 3007, 7007.1 and 9036, and Civil Rule: 7.1, and have asked that they be circulated to the bench, bar, and public for comment. The public comment period ends February 19, 2020.

Due to technical difficulties, the Eau Claire divisional office will be closed for the remainder of the day. We expect to resume normal operations at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Starting September 3rd, there will be no visitor surface-lot parking due to the construction of a hotel in the parking lot behind 780-740 Regent Street. The nearest Public Parking Ramp is the UW 21 North Park Street Garage (UW Lot 29), which can be accessed from north-bound lane of Park Street. Alternative Public Ramps are: 301 North Lake Street (9-minute walk), 415 North Lake Street (10-minute walk) and 430 North Frances Street (11-minute walk). You should allow extra time to parking and to walk.

The Clerk’s Office (Madison and Eau Claire) will be closed to all individuals filing documents and pleadings in-person on Friday, June 28, 2019, to enable staff to attend a district-wide training program. Documents and pleadings that must be filed in-person can be delivered to U.S. District Court located at 120 North Henry Street, Room 320, Madison, WI 53703, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The court will remain open for electronic filing and phone inquiries.
For questions regarding filings at the Eau Claire division that day or to make arrangements to file an emergency document if the filer is unable to travel to Madison, please contact the clerk’s office at (608) 264-5178.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Wisconsin will be closed on Thursday July 4, 2019 and Friday July 5, 2019, in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday. The Court will resume normal operations on Monday July 8, 2019.
